War Horse memorial stamps due for release

In a first for War Horse Memorial – and in support of our chosen charities – we are honoured to present this exclusive set of commemorative stamps which have been produced by the Isle of Man Post Office.

Composer Major Craig Hallatt

‘Elegy to the War Horse’ features four stamps from the island’s WW1 collections and four stamp labels and is a beautiful collection reflecting the emotion of the horse in war. Embedded is a unique and free zap app to hear music through the stamp sheet. Also featured is a bespoke wrap and CD, Elegy to the War Horse, written by Major Craig Hallatt, Director of Music and Officer Commanding The Band Of The Household Cavalry, a haunting and enigmatic tribute to war horses everywhere.

The composition is performed by The Guards’ Chapel Orchestra, and pays tribute to the millions of British, Allied and Commonwealth horses, mules and donkeys lost during World War I, including 100 animals requisitioned from the Isle of Man. Two horses, Imp and Molly survived and returned to the island to peacefully live out their days.

The EP also features tracks by The Soldiers and The Treorchy Male Choir, and marks the unveiling of Poppy, our national War Horse Memorial in Ascot two years ago by the nation’s Guides and Brownies who named her.
