Poppy our War Horse proudly displays a garland of knitted purple poppies which have been sent to us from readers of the Daily Express and Guides, Brownies, knitting groups and individuals from all over the UK, and from as far away as Canada, Australia and New Zealand. They wanted to show their support for the country’s first National Purple Poppy Day, which takes place on Thursday (August 23rd). In a simple ceremony, conducted by the Reverend Dr Darrell Hannah, Rector of All Saints Parish Church, in Ascot, the Mayor and Mayoress of the Royal Borough, Paul and Laura Lion joined local well-wishers and sculptor Susan Leyland who had flown over from her home in Italy to be with us. The event is the start of a week of fundraising activities across the country to raise money for our chosen equine and military charities.
We have been inundated with requests for our pin badge poppies and wristbands and its not too late to buy yours to support the appeal. Email: firstname.lastname@example.org for more details.
