WW1 animals honoured at Liverpool’s War Horse Memorial.
A wreath is being laid in Liverpool at the grave of a World War One horse to mark the first National Purple Poppy Day – which honours the animals who served in the conflict.
Two serving police horses and officers from Merseyside Police will join representatives from War Horse Memorial for the ceremony of remembrance.
8 year old Jess Edwards will lay purple poppy wreaths at the resting place of Blackie – a WW1 war horse.
Blackie’s grave was the first war horse grave to be given protection by Historic England, when it was granted Grade II heritage protection in 2017.
Merseyside Police is marking the first Purple Poppy Day, as part of its on-going programme to commemorate those who served in the First World War.
