It’s been a challenging time for us all but as we say goodbye to 2020 let’s look forward to the coming months when, hopefully, we can get back to a new normal. Our attention at War Horse Memorial is focussed on raising greater awareness and fundraising opportunities for the good causes we have chosen to support. We will do this predominantly though our Animal Purple Poppy Fund and we know that we can rely on you – our loyal volunteers and supporters – to help us achieve that ambition. With that in mind we wonder is this a good time to put the call out for the army of knitters who have helped us over the past 12 months to get out their needles and purple yarn once again to produce the beautiful knitted poppies that have become our emblem to remember animals of war and support animals in need?
Michael Thompson, our Ambassador for Windsor needed no such prompt and has been working with the wonderful ladies of the Datchet WI to create more than 200 individual and three beautiful horseshoe-shaped wreaths of knitted poppies to kick start this year’s Appeal. Michael has kindly agreed to act as our point of contact by supplying purple wool, diamante effect crystals for the centre of the poppies and safety pins to other kind-hearted folk who want to get involved.
