From all corners of the UK people and their animals have begun Walk for War Horse, to raise money for animal sanctuaries and good causes.
In Aboyne, Aberdeenshire, Diana Milligan, her terrier, Truffle and pony Cody have chosen to support our partners Brooke, the horse welfare charity which is running a Kilt Walk the weekend of April 23-25. Diana tells us her daughter (pictured right) took her two donkeys to a local old folk’s home. Needless to say it was the highlight of the week as you can see from the happy face of one resident.
More than 500 miles away, Ros Shepherd, a senior volunteer at Millers Ark Animals in Hook, Hampshire, has signed up to do the walk with Daisy Mae, below, a heavily pregnant mare who is expecting her foal soon, and Scarlet, a miniature donkey.
Walk for War Horse is encouraging animal lovers across the UK to register interest in trekking the hills and valleys near their homes throughout April with their horses, ponies, donkeys and dogs, while capturing on film the beauty of the British Isles. There is still time to get involved. Email firstname.lastname@example.org to register. For a £10 fee per animal we will send by post a metal purple poppy pin badge and a knitted poppy to attach to collars and bridles.
