Christina Johnston

Acclaimed soprano Christina Johnston is not only our Ambassador and friend, but whom we entrust to sing our anthems ‘To Glory‘ and ‘A Million Tears‘, written by Warwick, Young and Maclean).

She has a life-long love of horses and says she is proud to be associated with War Horse Memorial and The Animal Purple Poppy Fund. “When I was asked I was so honoured and felt extremely proud. I value the role that animals play in many people’s lives and their service and sacrifice in war. These two anthems are a powerful musical reminder of the contribution horses particularly made in world wars and the powerful bond between humans and animals."

Christina, nicknamed “The Nightingale” because of her exquisite coloratura soprano voice, has addressed audiences all over Europe, Asia and South America. She was accepted with a scholarship when she was just 18 to The Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. In 2012 she made her operatic debut at The State Opera, Prague as The Queen of the Night in Mozart’s Die Zauberflöte and Adele in Johann Strauss’s Die Fledermaus.

She has performed at Kazan Opera House, Russia, as Olympia from Les contesd’Hoffmann by Offenbach, sung on tour in Europe as The Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte and Olympia from Les contes d’Hoffmann. She premiered in the production of Puccini’s Tosca and has sung three seasons of Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni at The Estates Theatre, Prague.

She has also starred as Mozart’s pupil, Katerina Cavalieri, in the Broadway staged production of Amadeus in 2017. She regularly sings with various conductors and orchestras all over Europe and has had solo tours around Czech Republic, Slovakia, Asia and South America.

On numerous occasions, she has sung for embassies and Heads of State – most notably the President of the Czech Republic – Presidents of oher EU countries and the President of the Peoples' Republic of China, who invited her to sing to mark the 70 year celebrations of the end of World War II.

She was also chosen to sing in Hebrew by the Israeli Ambassador for the Day of Jerusalem. Christina regularly performs at the annual Prague Film Festival and has sung many film scores, most recently being the Czech film “Století Miroslava Zikmunda” and “Aldabra 3D” as well as for the 2017 British film “Interlude in Prague” about Mozart. Her debut CD “BLESSING” was recorded with The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra and is available to buy from Apple Music and Amazon.

Nearer to home she delighted the villagers of Cockington in Devon last November when she performed at their Purple Poppy Village Day, draped in our cloak of a thousand knitted poppies and flanked by local standard bearers of the Royal British Legion. She enthralled guests at our Anniversary Charity Ball.
